What Type of DHCP deployment Issues for Multinet Resolved by DHCP Super Scope?

DHCP Superscope can resolve following type of DHCP deployment issues for multinets:
  1. The available address pool for a currently active scope is nearly deployed and many computers need to be added to the network. The original scope includes the full addressable range for a single network of a specified address class. We need to use another IP range of addresses to extend the address space for the same network segment.
  2. Client must be migrated over time to a new scope.
  3. We want to use two DHCP server on the same physical network segment to manage seprate logical IP network.

What is DHCP super scope?

Answer: A DHCP super scope is an administrative feature of DHCP server running windows server 2003 that we can mange through the DHCP console. Using a DHCP super scope, We can group multiple scopes as single administrative entity. Using DHCP super scope, a DHCP server can:
  • DHCP server  support its clients on a single physical network segment, where multiple logical IP network are used. When multiple logical IP network are used on a each physical network or subnet, such configurations are often called multinet.
  • DHCP super scope also support remote DHCP clients located on the far side of DHCP and BOOTP relay agents.

What is DHCP Scope?

Answer: A DHCP scope is a range of valid IP addresses which are available for lease or assignment to client computers on a particular subnet. In a DHCP server we can configure a scope to determine the address pool of IP which is the server can provide its DHCP clients. Scopes should be defined and activated before DHCP client use the DHCP server for its dynamic IP configuration. You can configure many scopes on DHCP server as is required on our network environment.
